New Providence, N.J., May 28, 2019 – Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a Marquis Health Services member, has launched a chronic kidney disease (CKD) management program, naming Dr. Carl S. Goldstein as its director. The CKD initiative is part of Marquis’ multi-million-dollar upgrade at the 106-bed skilled nursing facility in New Providence.
Spring Grove’s new CKD management program provides specialized care and services to patients with CKD and related diagnoses. The program aims to preserve kidney function and prevent further decline through a balance of treatment and education. This includes protocols to reduce symptoms, decrease disability, increase quality of life and promote independence. Program features include consultation with board-certified nephrologists, diabetic management, health coaching and dietary education, and routine medical management of associated co-morbidities, among other services and therapies. Patients undergoing any form of dialysis treatment will have their treatment carefully coordinated with the dialysis unit to assure continuity and overall quality of specialized service.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Goldstein, who is highly respected for his nephrology expertise, as the director of our CKD management programming here at Spring Grove,” said Norman Rokeach, Marquis’ chief executive officer. “This specialized program aims to meet the healthcare needs of those living with CKD in the New Providence community and surrounding area.”
Dr. Goldstein is affiliated with Atlantic Health System’s Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J., where he is the chief of nephrology and director of dialysis services. He also serves as medical director for Summit Dialysis in Mountainside. Dr. Goldstein is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Rutgers University-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Goldstein is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Nephrology and Internal Medicine, and he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology.
“Chronic kidney disease affects 14% of all people in the United States, and impairment in kidney function is more prevalent among older patients,” Dr. Goldstein noted. “Attention to the special needs of residents with chronic kidney disease is critically important in assuring the best clinical outcome during care in a skilled nursing facility. I am excited to be leading this effort with a very committed and enthusiastic clinical team at Spring Grove. This will be a unique and much needed program in this region.”
Located at 144 Gales Drive in New Providence, Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. The facility maintains a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Monthly CKD Support Group is Open to the Public
As a central component of its new CKD management program, Spring Grove hosts an on-site monthly Community CKD Support Group, which is free and open to the public. At the meetings, speakers address a range of key concerns for those living with CKD, and a dietitian provides essential nutrition information and takes questions, as well. Participants then have a general discussion, getting tips and advice from one another on managing CKD.
