Dignitaries, Residents, Patients and Staff Celebrate Facility and Programming Improvements at Danvers Skilled Nursing Property
DANVERS, Mass., – Local and state dignitaries joined the staff, leadership and clients of The Brentwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in February to celebrate the completion of a $2.6 million renovation of the Danvers skilled nursing property. An open house and ribbon-cutting event highlighted improvements to the facility and its programs, implemented since The Brentwood’s purchase by Marquis Health Services in late 2013.
Located at 56 Liberty Street, the 159-bed, three-story property was built in 1972. Marquis Health Services renovated the building, incorporating a dedicated, 32-bed sub-acute care unit and a new, 2,300-square-foot therapy gym. The sub-acute unit features a neurologist-led stroke recovery program; it is the only facility in the North Shore region with this type of specialized program. The gym offers rehabilitation therapy seven days per week with state-of-the-art equipment – including a smart car to train patients in automobile transfers.
Additionally, Marquis Health Services redesigned patient rooms on The Brentwood’s rehabilitation floor, highlighted by the introduction of a transitional suite with a full residential set-up including kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. The apartment is dedicated for soon-to-be-discharged patients, who work with physical and occupational therapists during the last days of their stay to support a smooth transition to independent living in their own homes. Marquis also updated finishes in The Brentwood’s lobby, gathering spaces and throughout common areas, with other improvements continuing throughout the building. The organization will also introduce fine dining.
Beyond the physical and programming enhancements, new leadership is in place at The Brentwood. Marquis Health Services has appointed Josh Brown as administrator and Beth Fearon as director of nursing. Brown comes from within the Marquis organization; Fearon is a 20-year healthcare industry veteran.
“Our recent celebration marks the start of a new chapter at The Brentwood, one that is highlighted by an environment and leadership team focused on promoting the well-being of our patients, their families and our staff,” said Marquis Health Services’ Adam Goldman, director of operations. “We are proud of our investment – and involvement – in a property that is well-positioned to serve as the premier regional facility for short- and long-term skilled nursing care.”
The Brentwood sits on 1.85 acres at the intersection of Liberty and Elliot streets in a predominately residential area. The Beverly Hospital at Danvers is located just 10 minutes away, and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is a 20-minute drive from the property. Danvers has a higher-than-average percentage of residents over age 65, and this property houses nearly one third of the town’s certified skilled nursing beds.
“As a third-generation nursing home operator, Marquis Health Services approaches facility operations with two goals: providing excellent care and providing excellent customer service,” Brown said. “We bring a wealth of knowledge, ideas and best practices for adapting to the changing healthcare industry, and staying ahead of the game with innovative rehabilitation and clinical programs.”
Marquis Health Services is involved in more than 2,000 skilled nursing beds, including additional Massachusetts properties in Needham, Rockland, Beverly, Saugus, Webster, Lancaster and Holyoke. Several of the company’s nursing facilities received five-star ratings in U.S. News and World Report’s 2015 “Best Nursing Homes” feature. This distinction recognizes excellence in three categories: state-conducted health inspections, nursing and physical therapy staffing, and quality medical care.
